But sometimes, trying harder actually pushes our kids further away.

📍 Do you feel invisible to your child? Like, the eye rolls, the sighs, the one-word answer, they all start to make you wonder, "Do I even matter anymore?" If that's you, I want you to know you are not alone. And honestly, trying harder usually doesn't fix it. More questions, more lectures, more pressure, that can actually push your middle schooler away.

So today, I want to walk through five Proverbs 31 principles that can help you move from feeling invisible to showing up with confidence, wisdom, and kindness. 📍 📍 The first principle is this: know who sees you. Proverbs 31:30 says, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last, but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised."

In other words, your identity cannot depend on your child's attention or approval. Maybe you made their favorite dinner, drove them to practice, helped with homework, and all you got back was a, a grunt. That hurts. But God sees you even when your child doesn't notice a thing. So ask yourself, "Am I guiding my child, or am I looking to my child to prove that I matter?"

The 📍 📍 second principle is to show up with purpose. Proverbs 31:16 says, "She goes to inspect a field and buys it with her earnings. She plants a vineyard." Now, that doesn't mean chasing your child for conversation, and it doesn't mean pulling away either. It means showing up with intention. So if your child loves sports, start there.

If they're into a game, a show, a hobby, or even just a random topic they won't stop talking about, lean in. You don't have to force a deep conversation to build a real connection. Sometimes the best talks happen in the car or while you're folding laundry or walking the dog. Keep it low pressure and keep it natural.

The 📍 📍 third principle is to recognize that your faithfulness matters. Proverbs 31:18 says, "She makes sure her dealings are profitable, and her lamp burns late into the night." That's a picture of steady, faithful care, and it matters even when nobody applauds it. You see, maybe nobody sees the prayers that you whisper in the car.

Maybe nobody notices the time you spend thinking ahead, planning, helping, and serving. But you know what? God sees it. So try not to say things like, "After everything I do for you." Instead,, keep clear boundaries without tying your worth to your child's reaction, and ask yourself, "What fateful thing am I overlooking because someone else didn't notice it?"

The 📍 📍 fourth principle is to let wisdom and kindness shape your words. Proverbs 31:26 says, "When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instruction with kindness." That means we speak truth, but we speak it with kindness in our tone. So when your child says, "You never listen," your first instinct might be to defend yourself, and, and I totally get that.

But maybe a wiser response is, "Help me understand what made you feel that way." That kind of response opens the door instead of slamming it shut. You see, kindness is not weakness, and wisdom is not permissiveness. Both matter. And honestly, one of the most important things you can do is let your child see scripture shaping you two, not just being used to correct them.

The 📍 📍 fifth principle is to measure faithfulness by how you show up. Instead of asking, "Did my child notice me today?" ask, "Did I listen well? Did I respond wisely? Did I hold boundaries without shaming?" Because you can control your faithfulness. You can't control your child's response, and that can actually be very freeing.

It's a little like planting seeds. You can water them, you can tend them, you can stay faithful to them, but you can't make them sprout on your schedule And finally, remember that Jesus changes how you show up. Galatians 5:22 and 23, "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

And there is no law against these things." So this is not about trying harder to be the perfect mom. It's about letting the Holy Spirit produce in you the love, patience, gentleness, and self-control you need. So instead of asking, "How do I make my child notice me?" 📍 📍 Ask, "How can Jesus change the way I show up?"

So remember this: know who sees you, show up with purpose, recognize that your faithfulness matters, let wisdom and kindness shape your words, and measure faithfulness by how you show up.
